The NSMC Cancer Center opened in 1994 with a singular commitment in mind to bring compassionate cancer treatment to patients on Boston's North Shore. This commitment inspires everything we do from providing advanced chemotherapy and radiation therapy services, to researching new and promising therapies, to supporting our patients and their families through the emotional demands of illness, to the annual Cancer WALK, which raises hundreds of thousands of dollars to ensure state-of-the-art cancer care for the North Shore.
The NSMC Cancer Center is affiliated with Dana-Farber/Partners CancerCare, which includes Massachusetts General Hospital, Brigham and Women's Hospital and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. As a result, we are able to bring to the North Shore technologies and treatments previously available only in Boston. In addition, our longstanding collaboration with the Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center continues to deepen and bring new programs and services to the community. Together, we uphold the highest standards of care and work to ensure that our patients receive the most up-to-date treatments and research advances.
Our clinical services include medical oncology, radiation oncology, gynecologic oncology, genetic cancer risk screening, and multidisciplinary clinics in breast, lung and prostate cancer. We also provide laboratory and pharmacy services on site as well as a patient resource center.
At the NSMC Cancer Center, we are dedicated to treating not only the physical needs of our patients but also the emotional aspects of coping with cancer. We offer a range of support groups and the Healing with Hope program at NSMC Union Hospital to empower our patients to embrace self-healing, stress reduction, and coping. We provide complementary t herapy services such as acupuncture, herbal medicine, massage and yoga through the Wellness and Integrative Medicine Department.
The NSMC Cancer Center is recognized by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer (ACOS) as a teaching hospital cancer program. The ACOS is a professional organization that recognizes institutions for their commitment towards quality outcomes through education, early screening and detection, community outreach support and clinical trials.
